About the game

A new shore, and no one to share it with.

A Time For War is a single-player, turn-based grand-strategy game. You lead one of three clans that have crossed the water to the Reach of Epeiros, a cold frontier of painted provinces, and you start with little more than a host, a handful of towns and the ambition to take the rest.

The campaign opens straight on the map, season by season. Settle wild provinces and raise their happiness, food and silver; set tax tiers and build queues; raise spears, horse, bow and fleets and move them as painted pieces across hills, forests and sea. Battles resolve on a spear–horse–bow triangle with terrain and walls, by hand or auto-resolved.

War is only half of it. Hold a clan council, marry for heirs and alliances, offer or demand silver and ceded land to end a war, weather frost events and raiders, and push your studies forward. Winter arrives on its own schedule to cut the food and close the passes, so every season is a wager on the next.

Features

What you’ll do

A hand-painted campaign map

Provinces are warped cells on a single hand-painted chart. Zoom out to a parchment strategy view to read the whole Reach at a glance.

Three clans, their own ways

Play Alkimos, Toxoti or Sophon, each with its own portraits, emblem and rules-read boons. The Halden and the Thorn Compact hold the map against you.

Deep province economy

Happiness, food, silver and tax tiers; build and recruit queues; inner-city slots and governors. Food caps how far you can grow.

Armies, forts, sieges and fleets

Move hosts and navies as chess-pieces, take walls and forts, and fight on a spear–horse–bow triangle with terrain — by hand or auto-resolved.

Statecraft and the clan

War and peace terms, alliances, a clan council and elders, marriages and heirs, missions and seasonal events.

Seasons that bite

Every tenth kind of turn, winter cuts the food and shuts the passes. Plan for it, or be caught short when it lands.
